About This Tour

Kayak from the mighty Hoover Dam all year! Evolution Expeditions secures the necessary permit which provides a fish-eye view of the massive Hoover Dam from its base during its launch. The adventure starts with a descent down the original road carved into the canyon walls to create this colossal project of the 1930s. Kayak from the base of the Hoover Dam down the Colorado River, and through the Black Canyon. Steam inside the sauna cave and soak in geothermal hot spring pools hidden within side-canyons. Explore the stops along the way to view waterfalls, wildlife, the emerald green waters, and the dramatic landscape, all while hiking up the Nevada and Arizona shorelines and then take a plunge into the refreshing Colorado River.

Be prepared to spot desert bighorn sheep, coyotes, falcons, bald eagles, and different types of migratory waterfowl while paddling the twelve-mile stretch. Enjoy the beauty of the Black Canyon and the history behind 1921 water gauging sites. This kayak tour is a full day of paddling, hiking, and marveling in the beauty of the canyon. Be prepared, this is a challenging tour; beginner paddlers are often up for the challenge and advanced paddlers are never disappointed.

We offer top of the line gear and equipment with sit inside Prijon touring kayaks with rudders that have padded backs and padded seats, NRS life vests, and Aqua Bound paddles. All our guides are WFA/CPR certified and go through an extensive training program to provide excellent customer service and ensure guest safety.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

**Self drive participants will be shuttled from the morning meet up location to the launch point and will receive a shuttle back to the meet up location after the tour.

**Round trip shuttle service from Las Vegas hotels is subject to minimum participant requirements and departs from three locations, The Venetian, Bellagio, and Mandalay Bay.

Las Vegas Hotel Pick up is 90-110 minutes before the start time (e.g. 8:00 am tour times will pick-up: Mandalay Bay 6:30 am, Bellagio 6:20 am, Venetian 6:10 am).

Participant permits are secured on a first-come, first-served basis. Permits that we secure for you are included in the price of your tour, sell out quickly because the National Park Service limits the amount of paddle craft that are launched from the base of the Hoover Dam. Advance booking is highly recommended and confirmation will be based on permit availability. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION, as security personnel managing the Hoover Dam launch site will deny access if identification is not available. This is a very time-sensitive tour, meaning, security that escorts our guests to the base of the Hoover Dam for the launch, will not wait for anyone arriving past the scheduled morning check in time. PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME... Self drive participants must arrive 40 minutes before their scheduled launch time.

***Both beginners willing to embrace the challenge and experienced kayakers need to have the physical fitness to maintain an ACTIVE PADDLE through 12 miles of flat water with minimal current. Weather conditions may add an extra level of difficulty, and cancellation protocols are in place to ensure safety for all our river trips. If you are unsure of your physical fitness level, we highly recommend starting with our half-day tour through the Black Canyon.

Totally worth it! Incredible to kayak below the Hoover dam and visit several spots along the river. Our guide Michael was awesome, very attentive and informative. It was a hot day but the cold water along the kayak trip was so refreshing!

We LOVED our adventure today! Chanjira was an awesome guide. She was funny, patient and knowledge. Pointed out different wildlife, plants and explained a lot of history of the area. Hoover Dam was cool to see from the bottom. We loved the hot springs and relaxing in the warm pools. So fun to kayak down the Colorado river.
